This mature work by Sohan Qadri presents a visual reading of khechari or the philosophical idea representing the fusion of body and mind with the omnipresent energy. Warm colours represent emptiness with which the darker, phallic structure joins in a cosmic union. The work seems informed by Qadri’s Kaula practice of tantra—‘a spiritual path of sublimating sexual energy through the pursuit of divine union’. An alternative reading may be to examine the work as representing a path leading to the spiritual dawn for the human consciousness. The work reconciles opposing ideas of worldliness and spirituality in its representation of the creation principle.
