Sohan Qadri’s intuitive practice cuts through all formal boundaries to create its own genre of abstraction. Hara, the work portrayed here, explores a spiritual seamlessness and the mystery of textured surfaces in rhythmic equation with colour. Most of Qadri’s later paintings were colour fields punctuated by vertical or horizontal furrows and perforations, often with dots, and were done on paper. In contrast, this earlier work is an oil on canvas featuring a textured cosmos in an earthy tone punctured by a burst of pulsating green, like illumination infusing the atmosphere with energy and vitality.
