There were few artists who were as internationally renowned for their deep engagement with spirituality as Sohan Qadri. His career as a spiritualist-artist flowered after he left India in 1966 to travel across Europe and settle in Copenhagen. This work comes from a time when he was experimenting with formal arrangement for his tantra-derived abstraction, something that he would discard in favour of free rendition of colour fields, unfettered by form or boundary. In this work, the eye moves from the outer blue to the inner red through a black square punctured by lighted dots, which serve to highlight the life force residing in the core.
