Not one to shy away from experimenting across genres, Sunil Das wanted to discover the effect of various mediums on different surfaces as seen in this Untitled work. Assimilating a variety of influences from the West, he experiments here with abstraction even though his artistic oeuvre focussed on bulls, horses, and other episodes and stories inspired by Sonagachi—the red light area of Calcutta, and his own childhood days. Such abstractions often formed the background for his figurative paintings.
