Sunil Das was one of the most significant artists and teachers from late twentieth century Bengal and India. Known for his iconic drawings of bulls and horses, Das painted across several oeuvres, each one distinctive and to which he brought his singular vision. He once claimed to have painted 7000 horses in the decade of the 1950s, harnessing their energy for the optimistic decade that followed after the traumas of Partition violence and natural disasters that afflicted Bengal and India during the 1940s.
