By his own admission, between 1950 and 1960, Sunil Das ‘must have done [drawings and paintings of] seven thousand horses…’ The artist rose to prominence for the energy and vitality with which he depicted the equine in his art. He creates in Horse a palpable tension with the movement of the animal, which he renders in strong, bold lines. The artist packs in details—oval-shaped hooves, long tail, long slender legs, muscular and deep torso, and a long, thick neck.
