Laxman Pai lived in Paris for a decade and this Untitled work was done during that phase. Pai’s paintings may have been evoked from the inspiration he sought from Paris—Paul Klee’s lines; operas; visits to iconic museums and exhibitions, among other European sites of interest—but the themes in his works were, in his own words, ‘my memory recollections of Goan subjects’. Unsurprisingly, then, this Untitled work takes us straight into experiencing the Goan seascape with the painting pulsating with a kinetic rhythm and energy.
