This painting was made during the last year of Laxman Pai’s ten-year stay in Paris. While the artist was inspired by the ‘vibrating line of Paul Klee’, a host of other masters influenced his work. Would it be incorrect, then, to say that this painting is possibly Pai’s homage to Rodin’s Kiss? After all, it has a strong emotional radar. The ‘vibrato’ lines are inspired, in turn, from the musical concerts that Pai attended in Paris. A keen musician, Pai’s Untitled work is significant in understanding his artistic journey.
