Returning to Goa after a decade in Paris, Laxman Pai rejoiced in the lush seaside of his home with its verdant fields and coconut plantations. He continued to paint for some more time in the style he had come to master in Paris. Looking out of a window in Margao, he spotted this grove of trees swaying in the breeze, coconuts dangling from their branches. The trees acquire an architectural quality, like steel trusses, as though holding up the stretch between the earth and the sky.
