Chittaprosad believed that children needed to learn cultural values and chose to illustrate the Ramayana as a consequence. This woodprint, though not part of the Ramayana series, is an illustration from it of Diwali, the festival of lights. A young boy holds a lighted diya in his palms under the guidance of his mother, possibly to place it in an alcove, as so many lamps have been placed. The deep sense of serenity the artist has achieved in the print echoes his thoughts about the sacredness of the festival even though he was an avowed communist for a large part of his life.
