Chittaprosad’s studies in pastel have an unpretentious directness. More than qualifying for the conventional nomenclature of ‘still-life’, these are works done in simple arrangement, becoming frank statements about his immediate ambience. The extent to which Chittaprosad’s pictures visibly invoke post-impressionist compositional structure and linguistic rationale is evident in this Untitled still-life with lobsters. Consisting of things culled out of his personal space, these studies are expressions of the artist’s appreciation of beauty in simple shapes and colours.
