Chittaprosad did quite a few scraperboards, a process that is a form of direct engraving in which the artist scratches off dark ink to reveal a white or coloured layer underneath. Chittaprosad tackled diverse subjects while working in this medium. Some, such as this Untitled work, classify as ‘utopic’ images of rural plenitude and happiness, indicating the artist’s growing affiliation with the world peace movement. This affirmative tone may be read as reflecting a shared optimism characteristic of a newly liberated nation.
