Rural and pastoral images, devoid of any political dictum, too were done by Chittaprosad, the artist best known for his visual documentation of the aftermath of the Bengal famine. In direct contrast to his famine pictures is this Untitled linocut that exemplifies Chittaprosad’s desire to create works that reflect peace, prosperity, happiness, and tenderness. There is simplicity in many of the idyllic rural works done by Chittaprosad, reflecting a universal humanism and social worldview. Such works also reflect, quite possibly, the artist’s own desire for a better world, or disillusionment with the Marxist ideology.
