The source of life has been an ever-present part of Shobha Broota’s practice and here she seems to depict the birthing of a plant as a seed awakens to the call of the five elements. This fruitful bursting is captured in the sheath-encased seed as it springs upward, recalling the season of spring and the awakening to life of all that has hibernated through winter. The graceful rhythm of the lines in the painting evoke the artist’s early training in music.
