The Origin series of works has been an important chapter in Shobha Broota’s oeuvre, where she has turned her philosophical gaze on the theory of the origin of life. This series is characterised by pulsating points of energy, both in colour field works and those with geometric shapes as in the work under consideration. A black dot or bindu is the source of energy travelling outwards through progressive increase in strength as indicated by thicker lines of the circle. An inverted pyramid with independent movement like a spinning top helps to keep the circle afloat.
