A trained classical musician, Shobha Broota’s pictorial representation of classical Indian ragas forms the essence of her celebrated style in which she conveys their subtle variations through minimal use of colours. Even if she had not titled this work Celestial Music, the gently undulating strands that emanate from the bottom and trace a path towards their amalgamation with ether evoke the physical journey of a musical note. That’s a fitting metaphor for life itself that must travel through time like a musical note before attaining dissolution with the universe. The horizontal white bands could be life’s landmarks defining its onward journey.
