Shobha Broota’s contemplative works are as much an ode to Indian tradition as to colour field abstraction, quite like other globally-renowned Indian abstractionists like S. H. Raza and Natvar Bhavsar, for instance. Her work is based on an energy field in which the centre pulses with a palpable force, which, in this Untitled canvas, is a thin ray of sharp white light, diffusing progressively as it travels outwards in four different directions. However, it infuses the yellow field with a force that brings it alive, like sudden consciousness in a meditating mind.
