Shobha Broota remains one of the most enigmatic artists of her generation, quiet and reticent, but whose works pulsate with energy and powerful representations of colour, exemplified by this Untitled pastel work. Broota chose abstraction when few women artists were considering it as a genre, and has remained steadfast to its grammar. Tonally, her works have been compared to waves of music, which is quite appropriate as she is a professionally trained musician. 'Just by sitting in front of a colour, I can wander to different realms. It becomes an end in itself', she says.
