Indian modern art has given birth to several immortal masters but there has been none like M. F. Husain. He painted prolifically and brilliantly throughout his career—till the very last days of his life—and essayed themes and genres successfully. In this oil, he explores an individuated style of abstract expressionism displaying non-objective reality: a human hand with its index finger raised, almost as if sermonising or forcing an order. Alongside are heartshaped floral entities that appear surreal because of the sombre background that they rise from. This is a rare work from a master whose laurels were largely built on figurative-narrative works.
