M. F. Husain created a personal artistic idiom that combined various influences and sources. The artist drew inspiration from popular culture and history, religion, cinema, dance, and science, throughout his career. His preference for the figurative was well known and he creates in Cobra Girl a rather evocative imagery that suggests sexual tension and energy. The figure of the woman is inspired from traditional sculptures, interpreted, however, in a personal language. The colour tone heightens the overall sultriness that’s suggested by the painter.
