The flowing line that constructs and builds up the female figure in this painting, doing away with any other element or excess, shows M. F. Husain’s strong command over bold and clean brushstrokes. The monochromatic work may have been a challenge for others—given that it doesn’t rely on colours, backgrounds, or any other rich element for that matter—but in Husain’s skilled hands, it achieves a depth that leaves one marvelling at the technique employed by the artist.
