Etching and aquatint on paper
In the 1990s, Anupam Sud essayed quite a few works that showed groups of people in a social setting. Inspiration for these works can be traced to the crowded buses that Sud would often take to commute from her home to the College of Art, Delhi, where she was teaching during this period. In this particular print, Your Huddled Masses, she presents a snapshot of commuters in a bus/ train, huddled closely together as is visible from the window. Each is lost in their thought, smoking and making circles of fumes, listening to music, or gazing listlessly out of the window. A palm impression left by someone on the glass in red ink catches attention of the viewer.
