This 2010 print based on a 1998 watercolour (Fisherman of Souls) is a pointer to how Anupam Sud develops her imagery, often over years, even decades. The male nude is no aberration in Sud’s work, who has been an admirer of their physiques from a young age. The figure appears vulnerable, unsure, given his stance and the way he holds his palms out in a gesture almost of surrender. Sud’s choice of colours—vibrant red, yellow and green—though, is a departure from her more usual black and white prints, sometimes with just a smidgen of colour.
