Lalu Prasad Shaw was at the forefront of the renewed interest in printmaking in Calcutta when a new generation of artists started experimenting in the genre in their quest for a modernist language. He created abstract and monochromatic prints that were dynamic, spontaneous, and highly graphic. This Untitled work presents an abstract landscape with its architectural elements clearly delineated. The chiaroscuro effect in the centre of the work evokes the play of afternoon light on a historical, stone monument when viewed from a vantage point higher above its plane.
