As an active printmaker, Lalu Prasad Shaw developed a highly abstract visual vocabulary, manifested through his well-known monochromatic prints. However, works in colour have not been rare either. In the tradition of American abstract expressionism, Shaw’s works have been spontaneous, emotional and intuitive creations such as this Untitled etching. Bright green and saffron form reference points in the print that presents two forms of indeterminate shapes. The path traced by acid on the metal plate lends the shapes a textural attitude. A white circle on the upper figure provides centre of gravity to the overall balanced composition.
