Lalu Prasad Shaw developed a highly abstract visual vocabulary in the tradition of the American abstract expressionists. This Untitled work immediately draws our attention, urging us to enjoy its dynamism and the spontaneity. The complexity of printmaking technique notwithstanding, Shaw’s balance of light and dark areas in this Untitled print makes his art even more engaging. Though fluctuating between abstraction as a printmaker and the figurative style of a miniaturist as a painter, Shaw successfully kept the integrity of both as and when he practiced them.
