Sohan Qadri often made use of pure colours to create energy fields and avoid “the distortion created by images”. His mature works are marked by a rich simplicity, making them tools for the tantric practitioner. Qadri’s works were informed by his own perception of reality and his own experiences as a tantric sadhak. The intense red may be seen as a path of energy inviting the viewer to immerse in a spiritual experience. Red, the colour of desire, is also the colour of shakti or the creative cosmic force—the textured walls seem to contain this unlimited flow of energy, much like the symbiotic Purush Prakriti principle. Does the intermingling of the red and the blue at the borders then signify the commingling of the two cosmic forces?
