Ved Nayar had sketched another self-portrait by the same title but while that simply focused on the features of the painter’s face, trying to become one with his other figures, which he paints often—in this work, the artist turns the lens on himself as a sarcastic comment on what his work signifies—the destruction of the planet with increasing consumerism and hedonism exhibited by people. He paints the colours of the Indian flag in quite a few places, including his glasses, a commentary on our homeland.
