There is a sense of serenity one experiences when viewing works by Russian artist Nicholas Roerich who made India his home for almost two decades. His colour palette was vivid and his artistic oeuvre was an ode to the Himalayan range, which he painted in a Western manner while evoking an Eastern mysticism. Roerich’s works inspired a number of landscape artists and though this work is starkly different, it is an example of Roerich’s masterly brushstrokes, and an overall harmony that he aspires to achieve in his paintings.
