Despite facing struggles in early life upon the death of his father when he was all but eleven years old, K. S. Kulkarni evolved an individuated pictorial language that aesthetically blended numerous artistic influences, helping him carve a pre-eminent place for himself in the world of Indian modern art. He travelled widely and assimilated global trends that reflected in his works. In this tightly packed cityspace, cubist influence can be detected as also the inflluence of the geometrical figures of ancient civilisations of South America. The most distinctive feature of this work, however, is the thick line, which was quintessentially Kulkarni.
