Jyoti Bhatt has worked in several materials to create works that are vital in understanding Indian modern art. A photographer—it is to his credit that so many important Indian artists have been documented photographically—and a painter, Bhatt creates in Persistent Images a politically charged collage. Some of the panels in the painting, revealing different years, hint at personally profound moments that may have affected the artist. He paints the iconic white Congress cap to write texts and slogans questioning the political regime.
