As an observer of human idiosyncrasies, Amit Ambalal takes delight in painting ironical situations and engage the connoisseurs of art with humour. In this gouache work, he draws attention to a swimmer enjoying playing in water even as a crocodile creeps up silently. The gator is too close for comfort yet the swimmer is totally oblivious of its presence, even entranced in the water sport or Jalakrida as the title suggests, the trance depicted by the floating blooms of yellow oleander. There are more swimmers in the background but seemingly not at threat by the gator.
