Amit Ambalal doesn’t offer explanations for the paintings he creates; it is left to the viewers to make what they would of it. What, however, remains constant is a sense of mischievousness in the way he depicts what he observes. In this Untitled acrylic work, for instance, what we see is, perhaps, a political soiree in progress with the leader giving away promises—depicted through flowers—in a condescending stance as evident from his stretched spine and head thrown back. The two lackeys by his side, with their comical visages, make it droll.
