Though in his later years, including the time when this Untitled work was executed, M. Suriyamoorthy used mixed media such as oil and acrylic, in the Seventies, he created his own colours, experimenting with the indigenous ingredients of Siddha medicine, grounding them from seashells, obtaining them from tree gum, even the waters—and soil—from rivers in India. This solid experience allowed him to bring a unique brilliance and vibrancy into his colours, which he further combined with his free-flowing, energetic lines, evident in this Untitled painting.
