M. Suriyamoorthy was a highly experimental artist within the Madras Group and cultural continuity was central to his work. The brilliant vibrancy of his colours combined with free-flowing, energetic lines that enhanced the decorative patterning of space and marked his style. Like many other Indian artists, Suriyamoorthy, too, makes his version of Mahatma Gandhi in Gandhi Thoughts. The painting shows the artistic strength of the painter as if the flowing lines are incised on to the canvas.
