In a series of paintings on illicit, forbidden liaisons, Rabin Mondal dwelled on the venality of such couplings from a moral point of view. The lovers of Forbidden Saga No. 2 cling to each other as though for survival rather than out of passion. The vicissitudes of fortune have betrayed them, imperilling their survival, cheating them of dignity and respect. Look closely and there is an absence of sentiment in the interactions that occur between Mondal’s couples.
