It is largely to Nemai Ghosh’s credit that many of us have access to Satyajit Ray’s remarkable life. The photographer constantly captured the myriad moods of the ace director—on film sets, in his home, during breaks between scenes—and gave to us an invaluable documentation of Ray. He captures the stalwart in his study, a cavernous but airy room, surrounded by books and papers. This is where Ray researched and wrote the scripts for his films, composing their music and sketching their costumes.
