Master printmaker Haren Das created art that was vital in understanding a different perspective of ‘modernism’ in Indian art. His focus remained the ordinary people enjoying idyllic surroundings, stealing moments of peace. He also celebrated the simple hardworking people and we see here his excellent draughtsmanship in the manner in which he creates the image of a young girl doing rope dance. Das gives us a top-view perspective, communicating to us the interplay of distance, light, shadow, and the overall effect.
