Vignettes of daily life in rural Bengal, rendered through clean yet clear lines, intricate details and washed with sober colour just enough to accentuate the image made Haren Das’ prints technically superior and endearing at the same. His use of colour was especially remarkable as he clearly used it to highlight what he wanted and not to fill the picture plane. The example is the blue of teal-blue for water that fades into the horizon. Reeds and lotuses in the distance frame this pretty picture of a woman catching fish in a local pond.
