Haren Das trained at the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta, and throughout his career, remained true to academic practise and a nostalgic vision he nurtured. In doing so, he created detailed chronicles of rural Bengal that is now lost to history. His prints have preserved for posterity an idyllic way of life lived in sylvan, unpolluted environs. This simple image of boats on a river bank full of pebbles is not just a charming picture but also shows his dexterity in capturing a particular time of the day with the beautiful play of light and shade.
