This painting illustrates the drastic shift witnessed in Avinash Chandra’s art around 1960, especially of the free-flowing line. This was also the year when W. G. Archer hailed Chandra as one of India’s most significant artists since Independence in an essay in Studio, thus reinforcing his claim on the London art scene.
