Waterproof ink, marker, and brush and ink on paper
Painting landscapes at the start of his career in New Delhi, before he relocated to London in the late 1950s, Avinash Chandra enriched his visual vocabulary by increasing distortion and giving his landscapes a strong sense of celebration. Lines began to form a busy pattern across his drawings as he shed any hint of the academic for the increasingly fantastic. He continued painting in various mediums, impressing both viewers and critics, and became recognised as ‘one of the most significant modern Indian artists since Independence’.
