R. B. Bhaskaran, in this delightful still-life, rejects any conventional notion of the genre, strips away the formality that’s typically associated with it, and emerges with a strong work of art that comes from a personal standpoint. On the face of it, the work takes the classic trope of a still-life—a vase with flowers—and suffuses it with his own understanding and interpretation of the genre. Bhaskaran adds to the aura of this painting by dotting the surface with bright colours over the dominant black and grey colours.
