R. B. Bhaskaran
38.0 x 32.2 in. / 96.5 x 81.8 cm.
Acrylic and encaustic on canvas
One of the vital members of Madras Modern movement, R. B. Bhaskaran chose to work through the lens of his own personal idiom, rejecting any preconceived ideas which may be given to him in the name of art. Though he moved beyond the regional/nativist debate, wanting no reference whatsoever to any local forms, in the Seventies, the decade to which this Untitled work belongs, he painted quite a few works, which turned to Hindu iconography. These could be through play of lines, motifs, through which he built up the overall image.
