Known to paint cats, R. B. Bhaskaran’s initial attempt at painting the feline was on a large canvas, and in capturing the agility of the creature, it paralleled the artist’s mental makeup. The cat, in his own words, ‘is a form. I delineate forms, assimilate them and then generate a new form, and that’s the cat’. There is ‘simplicity to the drawn line that is attractive’. The feline figure, according to the artist, became a point of reference to explore the concept of form in terms of space.
