No artist’s earliest tryst with the world of art is ever complete without still-life studies. And Altaf too pays ode to the genre through this work, a virtuoso example of the study. It can be called a still-life study of a bar shelf, considering that the artist has identified a flask of ale and a bottle of whisky on the top row. It is the decidedly cubist treatment to the shelf itself and the black inky background that lend character to the overall composition—a fine example of the subject.
