Altaf’s layered imagery used such metaphors as transparent curtains to create a sense of time past and present for him to share his views on political and social ills. This painting is like an India reader with a map in the central lower half resonating with a flag waving politician in the top left-hand corner. The rest of the painting is divided up into segments with various scenes, many of them representing personal experiences, playing out against a backdrop that is like an enquiry into the nation’s report card.
