Shades of pink and blue were not common in Altaf’s palette. Nor was sunlight that has filled this room where the protagonist is sitting and brooding. It’s an introspective work but is a departure in its execution from most other such examples from the repertoire of this artist whose Marxist leanings reflected not only in his art but also in his engagement with the marginalised. The chief character of the work is in a state of contemplation with his thoughts overpowering his being as is evident in the way they have filled the room through vapours.
