Investigation into different aspects of life remained a lifelong quest with Altaf, who gave expression to man’s external travails as also to internal turmoil. In this work, the gaze is directed inwards, metaphorically and perceptibly. While the eye that may gaze at the outer world is closed, the other eyeball is placed in a socket folding inwards, making an emphatic statement. The lips are parted but the teeth are set tight, referencing the silence that most of us choose as a response to the goings-on in our external environment.
