An important member of the Madras Group, S. G. Vasudev’s art assimilated influences that were regional and had influences of the Western artistic movements. Blending all influences and inspirations in his art, Vasudev’s art did not, however, aim at replicating any one movement or -ism. Instead, his work, as seen in Humanscape, created a harmony and balanced elements related to colour, form and texture. The optical strategy is in place here with distortion and abstraction still coming together to create a ‘figure’ that is intriguing.
